Time for a new phone for Che, it's coming! But "Don't call it a phone"
Saturday, May 12, 2007

/dev/null So Helio has finally introduced the motherload and dropped a bomb to the cell phone industry. "Don't call it a phone." is their motto. The new "device" (can't call it a phone) is the Helio Ocean, a beautiful new flagship device that will replace my T-mobile Sidekick II. Granted, I did not go with the Sidekick III because the Sidekick II did everything I needed, but didn't think the new features of the third revision were worth it. Now, after several years of the Sidekick II, I will be jumping ship to a new carrier and a new device to meet my daily needs. And yes, I am not an Apple fanboy, somewhat interested in the iPHONE, but to tell you the truth, I'm holding my breath and diving into the Ocean because it delivers the feature sets that cater to my needs.
SK (South Korean) Telecom and a joint venture with Earthlink, better known as Helio have opened its services here in the United States for quite some time. Helio had ugly phones, that were nice in features, but knew they haven't dealt the joker card just yet. I've been watching Helio, just as I did with Deutsche Telecom, also better known as T-mobile when they arrived to the states with their exclusive Sidekick lines from Danger Inc. Now times have changed, the new kid on the block, the Ocean, will drown Danger's Sidekick lines. Granted, the Helio Ocean has many attributes that its forefather Sidekick has, but has actually polished some of the flaws, added new features and lost some features ((I will list my reasons why in the review) also. Helio says that their device shouldn't be compared to the Sidekick. On Danger's defense, don't try to copy their intuitive slick UI design with the circular icons, keyboard that has flavors of the sidekick, and some other nuances that make the Ocean a competitor to the Sidekick. As high tides rip through with the Ocean, I can't wait for this phone to arrive in the office so I can greet my new device like it was my own child, lol sad huh?

Thank you T-mobile and Danger for a fantastic phone and service, the Sidekick I and II have met all my needs, but it is time for us to part and venture onto our own paths. Just like how I left Cingular for you like a bad girlfriend that has serial killer motives, now your time has come because you've dropped the ball on the Sidekick III. Helio will be my new family now, hope they embrace me as I did them. I will be writing an extensive review (soon to come) especially for this phone, since I have been one of the patient zero's for the first generation Sidekick.

*waves* T-mobile
*punts* Sidekick
*shakes hands* with Helio/SK Telecom/Earthlink
*hugs* with Ocean, welcome to the family.
