Planned server maintenance
Monday, June 04, 2007
So the other day, was watching TV and noticed that the 4U box that is sitting under my TV was louder than usual. This box, is the server that runs MythTV, website, and everything else. Generally it's been built to be pretty quiet, it's nearly silent, adjusted the fans to a lower RPM, the default exhaust fans made the box whine like a crying baby. I started to hear one of the fans failing and it was bothering me, so I decided not to be lazy and did a planned maintenance which brought down everything for about 20 minutes.

Ocean drowns by itself. Game over Helio, thanks for playing. Continue??
Thursday, May 24, 2007
I was one of the early adopters of the Helio Ocean, and got the phone pretty quick. As you can read my previous post of how I was going to switch to the Helio Ocean and retire my Sidekick II, oh how I was ever so wrong.

What goes on in Che's mind when he sleeps....dreams and nightmares
Monday, May 14, 2007
Funny how dreams can be so real and vivid, but right when you wake up, you figured out it was a dream/nightmare and as time passes, memory of the dream gets cloudier until it is nearly forgotten or fades away locked up and the key thrown away. Well, at least that happens to me a lot. There are times where I will wake up and start to take notes if I even remember to. Whether they are dreams or nightmares, odd how the mind works when a person is asleep.

Time for a new phone for Che, it's coming! But "Don't call it a phone"
Saturday, May 12, 2007
So Helio has finally introduced the motherload and dropped a bomb to the cell phone industry. "Don't call it a phone." is their motto. The new "device" (can't call it a phone) is the Helio Ocean, a beautiful new flagship device that will replace my T-mobile Sidekick II. Granted, I did not go with the Sidekick III because the Sidekick II did everything I needed, but didn't think the new features of the third revision were worth it. Now, after several years of the Sidekick II, I will be jumping ship to a new carrier and a new device to meet my daily needs. And yes, I am not an Apple fanboy, somewhat interested in the iPHONE, but to tell you the truth, I'm holding my breath and diving into the Ocean because it delivers the feature sets that cater to my needs.

Jiffy Lube Linux experience out in the wild
Monday, April 30, 2007
I was getting my oil changed at a local Jiffy Lube that I go to and was sitting in the waiting area watching TV, waiting for my car to be serviced. I thought the TV had a live cable/satellite feed with some kind of Jiffy Lube advertisement overlay ticker. It was a computer that was driving the television feed, so I thought it was probably some kind of Microsoft program running it. I was so wrong, they are running Linux!

What is Che's political status you ask?
Monday, April 23, 2007
My political status. Hmm... well thats a question I asked myself recently. I don't really like politics at all, I think its one of the least interesting topics to discuss upon. Regardless, I went ahead and took an online quiz to see which way I leaned towards. Am I Republican or am I a Democrat?

So guess what? The hottest and latest Los Angeles craze has finally opened its doors in Rancho Palos Verdes! Pinkberry a frozen yogurt (tastes kind of like real yogurt) treat opened another location in the Peninsula shopping area (not the Palos Verdes Peninsula mall).

defcon4 participates in BOINC. Lemmings, lets join the masses and unite!
Saturday, April 21, 2007
defcon4 server has been upgraded for MythTV capabilities, but that is not all. We are now using an Intel Core Duo 2 1.86Ghz processor, but not much of the processor is being used. We have decided to use BOINC and participate in folding for SETI and the World Community Grid.

Who is my favorite artist, or what type of music does Che listen to?
Saturday, March 17, 2007
If you hadn't already known, I was a music major in college. I studied music history which ranges from Gregorian chant, classical (baroque and romantic periods), jazz, and pop music. With a big influence in music and actually know how to play, what do I listen to?
